Scorer Qualifications

Pearson selects scorers who are qualified according to criteria defined by each state's testing program. While specific scorer qualifications may vary depending on the assessment they will score, in general, scorers will meet qualifications such as:

• A current, valid teaching certificate; AND
• Current or recent teaching experience in public schools; and/or
• Current or recent experience as a college educator responsible for preparing prospective teachers

Individuals applying to score the NYSTCE School Leadership Assessment must:

• Hold a professional or permanent New York State certificate as a school or district administrator, AND
• Be a current or former administrator in New York schools (public or private) within the last five years (including interim appointments), OR a current or former educator from a college or university who has taught or advised educational leadership candidates within the last five years

Individuals applying to score language assessments must meet the above criteria OR be native or fluent speakers in the target language and hold a college degree.

Eligibility

Individuals who participate as scorers may not be involved in developing test preparation activities or otherwise advising other individuals or groups about the content of confidential test materials. A scorer must also not be planning to take one of the tests s/he is scoring, and will be asked to sign a document agreeing to these restrictions.
